I’m so glad that a few of my Lilacs decided to bloom this year – otherwise I likely wouldn’t have seen this first Swallowtail butterfly flitting around the garden, searching for food, so early in the year. Last summer the garden was full of them – they seemed to love all the zinnias I had planted, and perhaps the parsley as well – I understand they like to lay eggs in parley and I did see caterpillars in the larger clumps.
I think I’ve been mistaking this as monarch 😐 I’m seeing them a lot more this month! Sadly my Korean lilacs show is done, and it’s been pruned already.

I think the Monarchs are more orange than yellow, and don’t have the ‘tails’ at the bottom of their wings. …lots of them last year as well!

I didn’t see much last year, hoping this year is different!

I noticed the lilac first. It is a French hybrid known as ‘Sensation’.
