I think the needles captures snowflakes and somehow holds them in place. Yesterday afternoon there was a bit of a breeze and the snow came off almost all the tree branches around here, but not these spruce.
Now, that’s how a winter tree is supposed to look! That last photo is terrific. It’s interesting that without the snow the spruce would tend to disappear into the busy background. It’s just beautiful. I’ve never imagined a black-and-white Christmas card, but that image would do it.
They hold the snow so prettily in tiers, and the thickness of the snow that stays on surprises me!
