I know eh? Might have something to do with the light turbulence in that area, below the falls. I’ve seen something similar on the shores of Lake Ontario occasionally, when there are gentle waves.
I recently read about these in Chicago, along the lakefront. There’s a bit of an explanation in the article. I think I’ve seen others that were said to have formed because of turbulence, as you say.
Thanks! Yes, there it is: “Once those bodies of water are cold enough, the chunks of ice that have started to form will knock against each other forming elliptical-shaped discs with rounded edges.”
Interesting. I would like to see how they form.

Really nice image Chris. Interesting how the formations occur.

We have ice coming tomorrow. I’m praying it misses us, but we have things prepared just in case. 😅

Freezing rain is the worst, isn’t it?? We were ‘supposed’ to get some earlier but it’s been sunny all morning!🌞🌞

Yes! Ours is due here tonight/early morning. Here’s to hoping it misses our area. I don’t want to lose power. lol
