1. Smoke trees are quite common here as an ornamental – more like a large shrub – and the species (ie with green leaves, not the purple cultivar I have) can be seen growing wild (??) at the side of lonely country roads occasionally.

      But I’ve never noticed this leaf pattern before either, at least to this extreme. Most leaves turn a brighter, deeper, purple/red in autumn, before they become brown and fall off.

      I’m going to keep an eye on it over the next few weeks…
